Strength Training: A Healthy Body = A Healthy Mind

Written by: Ethan Kanofsky

When strength training you're improving your physical health, but did you know you're improving your mental health as well? Here's why!

Mental Impacts:

It's common knowledge that strength training can lead to a healthy body, but did you know training itself can drastically improve your mental well-being? During and after training, your brain releases chemicals such as endorphins and dopamine. These natural chemicals hold many mental health benefits, as they increase feelings of happiness, provide stress relief, and increase your overall mental well-being!

Long-Term Effects:

While strength training does have an immediate impact, consistent training over long periods will exponentially improve your mental well-being. After training for a few months your mindset will drastically shift. Your mind will be disciplined in a way that ensures a progressive routine, whether that's consistency in the gym or ensuring a healthy lifestyle at home. Your confidence will increase and feelings of self-worth along with it. Studies show that there is approximately a 20% to 30% lower risk of depression and dementia for adults participating in daily physical activity. Simply put, if taking care of your mental health sounds enticing to you, get in the gym!
